Emeralds are one of the rarest and most high priced gems in the market.

They’re usually used to commemorate the 20th and 35th wedding anniversary and they’re as rare and unique as diamonds. This gemstones can be found in mines, incorporated to other type of rocks, generally in Colombia, Zambia and Brazil.

Weight (Carats)

Emeralds get measured by millimeters, from length to width, not by carats, which in this case just reflect the weight. The bigger the stone, the higher the price.

There are a lot of cuts that allow to maintain the original size of the gemstone, because in this case, inclusions are present during the natural process of creation of the Emerald.

Cut

Emerald cut and round cut are significantly more expensive than the rest of them, because the shape that the Emerald has will contribute to improve the refractive quality of the stone, making it shinier.

Clarity

Inclusions have a part in the beauty of the Emeralds, they naturally appear during their creation. Clarity of the stones gets evaluated without amplification, observing only the color of it. Bigger size stones may present different tones, which might reduce its value.

Color

This is the most important factor when we talk about the value of the Emerald. It gets graded based on its tone, hue and saturation, same 3 that will determine the quality of the stone.

There’s an standard that classifies the color like AAA, AA, A, B and C. Some of this gemstones will present a yellowish, blue or brown tone; the purer the green, the better the quality.
